Suggestions:
- I am calling
to voice how upset I am at the Conservative government for voting
against NDP MPP Tony Martin's Bill 118 to raise ODSP.
-
This is
a huge issue that affects 192,000 disabled people on ODSP and
our families, friends and caregivers.
-
People with
disabilities who can't work and are forced to rely on ODSP get
a maximum of $930 a month or $11,160 a year. This is over $7200
below the poverty line for those living in cities.
-
People on
ODSP have not had any increase since the Conservatives formed
the government. Since then the cost-of-living has gone up 12.8%.
Rents in most of Ontario's cities have gone up by more than
20%.
- It's impossible
for people with disabilities on ODSP to cover our basic needs
such as food, clothing and many of our needed medications that
have been delisted by the government - for many of us, our rent
takes up almost all of our monthly check.
-
The government
needs to listen and at the very least do what Tony Martin tried
to do today (June 13) and index ODSP to the cost of living.
