Call to Action - Caravan to Ottawa & Emergency Gathering of Nations!
The Assembly of First Nations, declare a "FIRST NATIONS CRISIS" and an URGENT request for all First Nations to join the "Caravan to Ottawa" for an "Emergency Gathering of Nations".
When: April 27- May 2, 2003
Where: Ottawa
Why: To Defend
our Sovereignty: Taking Charge of our Future
April 28 is when Parliament resumes and the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs will continue a clause-by-clause review of the Bill C-7, the "First Nations Governance Act".
"This is an urgent notice to all First Nations-- our inherent, Aboriginal and Treaty rights continue to be under attack by the federal government!"
"Three federal Bills (draft laws) are currently being rammed through Parliament by the Minister of Indian Affairs." Bill C-6, Bill C-7, Bill C-19
"It's time for an Emergency Gathering of our Nations! We need to have a large physical presence in Ottawa for the last week in April 2003, to show the Chrétien Liberals that First Nation peoples reject these bills and we mean business."
"Your leadership and involvement is needed now! Bring your drums, flags, dancers, ceremonial leaders. We are planning a week-long series of events for our leaders and grassroots peoples. More information will follow."
