How to Change Blocked Message List in
Outlook Express & Netscape Messenger
Question: My Blocked Message List is growing all out of proportion! Is there
a way to shorten it?
Answer:
You could try blocking by "Domains" rather than individual
addresses. The domain is the part of the e-mail address that comes after
the "@", i.e., in the address info@microsoft.com "microsoft.com"
is the domain name. That way, all mail from that particular domain is
blocked. The downside to blocking domains, of course, is that you'll
block all mail, including valid mail, from those domains.
Included below the
Answer is steps in how to Block a sender in Outlook Express and also
how to remove someone from the Blocked Senders list for benefit of other
list members.
To block a domain using Outlook Express:
select the <Tools>
menu
choose the <Message
Rules> option, and a side menu opens
select the <Blocked
Senders List> ... The Message Rules Window opens
under the tab
marked <Blocked Senders>, you'll find your list of blocked addresses
select the <Add>
button ... now the Add Sender Window opens
instead of typing
in a full e-mail address, just type in the domain name
select <OK>
Your new domain
blocker will appear in the Blocked Senders List. You can now use the
<Remove> button to remove any blocked addresses that end with
that domain name.
Netscape Messenger
does the same thing but in a slightly different way:
select the <Edit>
menu
select the <Message
Filters> option ...
from the Message
Filters Window, select the <New> button
in the Filter
Rules menu that now opens, type in a filter name. You want to use
the pull-down menus so that the top reads "the sender of the
message contains" followed by the domain name. The bottom line
should read "then move to folder" and "trash".
select <OK>
to complete the process
back at the
Message Filters Window you'll find the new rule listed in the "filters
will be applied" box
select <OK>
to finish the process
