W32.Bugbear.B

The Windows computer
virus known as W32.Bugbear.B continues to spread worldwide. Anti-virus
software maker Symantec, which measures virus threats on a scale of
1 to 5, today upgraded Bugbear.B from a 3 to a 4 based on its growth
and potential danger to infected users.
Many of you have
probably already taken the necessary precautions. For everyone else,
the usual advice applies:
1. If you dont
have anti-virus software, get some! (see below)
2. Update your
virus definitions frequently.
3. Never open
unsolicited files that come by e-mail, even if you know the sender.
4. Never use
attachments to disseminate information when plain text would be sufficient.

The
EXE file is an executable copy of the virus. The DLL is a keystroke
logging tool which is used by the virus when it is activated.
The
virus spreads itself via email. The emails can look like normal emails
or they could have no body text and one of the following subject lines:
Hello!
update
Payment notices
Just a reminder
Correction of errors
history screen
Announcement
various
Introduction

Attachments can
have the same filename as another file on the victim's computer.
The attachments have double extensions with the final extension being
EXE, SCR or PIF.
Please note that
the virus can spoof the From and Reply To fields in the emails it sends.
