Worm Viruses Netsky.I
worm virus
This virus spreads via an email message that says your Yahoo account has been closed or deactivated, and urges you to click on what appears to be a valid Web link. Depending on the setup of your Windows PC, simply clicking on this link will infect your computer. Note that valid Web addresses will not end in ".scr" or ".pif" or ".exe" -- these are programs or scripts that run in Windows and can be used to infect your PC. Complete information about the virus from Symantec is available here:
If you don't have a Yahoo account, this message probably won't fool you. However, many people do have a Yahoo account, and don't quite understand how it works, so this virus is bound to catch quite a few. For the next couple of weeks (at least), please be cautious about any message that appears to be from Yahoo. In fact, it's probably a good idea to be skeptical about ANY email that appears to be from a big company this week.
This one claims to be from Microsoft, and urges you to use attached software to protect against a different virus. The subject of the message is "Microsoft Alert" (there's also a German language version). The message is NOT helpful -- it's a virus. Remember that Microsoft does NOT distribute software via email. You will NEVER be sent a Windows update by email. More information here:
