New Worm Virus Alert
W32.Beagle.AV@mm

Virus Alert - November 1, 2004

On Friday October 29th, a new worm was discovered. W32.Beagle.AV@mm is a mass-mailing worm that also spreads through file-sharing networks. .

Also known as:

• Win32.Bagle.AQ [Computer Associates],
• WORM_BAGLE.AT [TrendMicro] and
• W32/Bagle.bb@mm [McAfee],

The worm affects systems running Windows 2000, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT, Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP.

The infected email may have the following characteristics:

From: (the From address will be "Spoofed")

Subject: (One of the following)

• Re:
• Re: Hello
• Re: Hi
• Re: Thank you!
• Re: Thanks :)

Message body:
:))

Attachment: (One of the following ... with a .com, .cpl, .exe, or, . scr file extension.)

• Price    with a .com, .cpl, .exe, or, . scr file extension
  
• price     with a .com, .cpl, .exe, or, . scr file extension
• Joke     with a .com, .cpl, .exe, or, . scr file extension

Notes:

• If the attachment has a .cpl extension, it will be detected as W32.Beagle@mm!cpl
