Your first line of defence against spam

Prevention is always better than a cure, so protect your computer from annoying and harmful spam by downloading only email you know to be safe. MailWasher Pro allows you to preview your email on your mail server, and tells you which messages are likely to contain spam or viruses. You can then choose to bounce, blacklist or delete messages outright — before they are downloaded to your computer.

Appear invisible to spammers Spammers collect and sell active email addresses, so Firetrust has developed a method of making them think you don't exist. When you 'bounce' a message through MailWasher Pro, the spammer receives an error message saying that their message (their spam) was undeliverable. This message is completely indistinguishable from the genuine 'mailer-daemon' response that you receive when you send email to a non-existent address. By bouncing spam back to the spammers, your email address will appear to be invalid, and spammers may remove your email address from their lists.

Furthermore, by previewing any potential spam on the server, you will be protected from "web bugs" which can tell spammers that your address is active. These bugs can be hidden in the body of an email as a tiny image, and are activated as soon as you preview or open the message in your standard email client. Since MailWasher Pro does not display images, these bugs will not be activated by previewing a message before downloading it.

You only need to lose one important email to realize that with much spam filtering software, the medicine is frequently worse than the disease. Most traditional anti-spam software has a tendency to allow in bad email while blocking legitimate email. MailWasher Pro is built around a completely new approach to email security that puts control back into the hands of the user. Using intelligent, customizable filtering and heuristics, MailWasher Pro will highlight the messages that appear to be spam or viruses and mark them for bounce/delete, but it won't process them until you say to. 1. To preview your mail on the server, simply run MailWasher Pro before you run your email client. MailWasher will download the Subject and first twenty lines of your new email, and then process it to determine which messages might be spam. Messages will be identified as being either normal (not spam), possibly spam, probably spam, virus, possibly virus, blacklisted (by you) or blacklisted by ORDB, Spam Cop etc.
   
   
2. Based on these recommendations you can then either download a message, delete it from the server, bounce it back to the sender, or blacklist it. Bouncing a message will make it appear as though your email address doesn't exist, while blacklisting will ensure any further spam you receive from that sender will be automatically identified as such.
   
   
3. After you've decided how you want each email treated, simply press "process mail" and your normal email client will open, retrieving only the messages you've marked for download.
