Bill C-303, the Early Learning and Child Care Act, will help boost child care from a patchwork of services to a pan-Canadian program through a law like the Canada Health Act. The NDP-sponsored bill will cement a solid foundation for child care by directing federal funds to high-quality early learning and child care programs that are universal, accessible and accountable.
Opposition Bloc Québécois and Liberal MPs joined the NDP in supporting the bill during a recent debate. This united front is crucial to moving Bill C-303 through the minority Parliament.
Opposition MPs need to hear from as many constituents as possible to solidify this support as the bill moves to a vote on second reading on Nov. 22. And Tory MPs need to hear from their constituents that their “plan” for child care won’t help Canadian children and parents.
