CHANGE the Voting System
Take Action - Contact your MP!

We have the opportunity to finally change the way our federal politicians are elected. Members of Parliament will be voting on Tuesday, September 30th on a motion to call a referendum asking Canadians if they would like to change the electoral system to proportional representation.

Canada is one of the few remaining industrialized "democracies" to hold onto the "first-past-the-post/winner-takes-all" that produces skewed results. In the last federal election only 41% of the population voted for the liberals but they were rewarded with 57% of the seats or in BC where the Liberals only received 57% of the popular vote but got 97% of the seats.

We need to change this system to something more reflective of what the population actually wants.

You can find out more information about this initiative at www.fairvotecanada.org.

Fair Vote Canada (FVC) is a multi-partisan citizens’ campaign for voting system reform. Canadians from all points on the political spectrum, all regions and all walks of life are joining FVC to demand a fair voting system – a fundamental requirement for healthy representative democracy and government accountability.

It is really important that you contact you MP over the next few days and let them know that you would like to see them vote to support a referendum on proportional representation.
