NEW YORK, March 25 (AFP) - China's banned Falungong spiritual group charged
the communist authorities Monday with rounding up 5,000 of its members
in a police sweep in northeast China and in which it claimed up to 100
practitioners were killed.

journalists still persecuted for covering Falun Gong 12/5/2001
International media watchdog Reporters Sans Frontieres (RSF) has asked
the Chinese government to stop intimidating foreign journalists attempting
to report on the Falun Gong spiritual movement, which is banned in China.
Since China has promised to let journalists work freely during the 2008
Olympics in Beijing, RSF Secretary-General Robert Menard said the authorities
should stop arresting foreign correspondents. Before the next session
of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, RSF said it will appeal
to the special rapporteur for free expression to denounce the Chinese
authorities' attitude towards foreign journalists.
