Away From Violence and Hatred
Embraced with Compassion and Tolerance

Gangs, guns, drugs and violence,
Where are they from?
Prejudice, discrimination, lies and hatred,
Why do they sound so familiar?
Oh this heart-felt pain!
Don’t want to remember it. Don’t want to touch it.
The battle with life that I tried to fight… is it coming back?
The paradise in my dream… is it becoming hell?
Don’t say,

“I am too little. I’ll be safer when I’m behind a shut door.”
Bullets have penetrated walls.

Innocent people have died without knowing why.
Don’t say,

“I stand aloof from the world.”
Hatred will command them to turn your ancestors’ tombstones,
and even the spirits of the dead will find it hard to rest.

Break the silence,
Say NO to all!
Stand tall. Step forward and say,
“What can I do to stop all this?”

Looking back in time through half-forgotten memories…

We once were kind to each other.
Parents loved their children, and neighbours trusted each other.
Recalling stories heard from yesterday…
We are blessed with God’s gracious gifts.
When Mother Earth is tenderly embraced,
In turns
People will be rewarded with good crops and greeted by long-lasting blooms.

How can I take this scale and balance it?
One more bit of compassion in my heart

will lead to
One less bit of hatred in someone else's.
When everyone’s heart is filled with one more bit of tolerance,
Our world will be brighte
ned by one more ray of sunshine.
Oh, when everyone’s heart is filled with sincerity,
The ugly and helpless happenings won't dare to come near us.
