DAWN Ontario: DisAbled Woman's Network Ontario is proud to announce that nominations are being accepted for our second annual Inclusion Leadership Award. We are looking for individuals and organizations who understand that by including people with disabilities in all life activities we are all enriched. Help us look for those
individuals and groups in the province of Ontario who understand the value
and beauty of participating together. Commencing in 2003,
the award is known as the Kim
McConnell Inclusion Leadership Award. (Our 2003 recipient was Joan Meister)
Kim McConnell was a proud member and former director of DAWN Ontario. She worked diligently on behalf of DAWN to promote and achieve the full participation of Women with disabilities in all social areas, including: employment, education, recreation, religion, and community life. As an individual woman with spina bifida, Kim approached and educated many people in positions of power about accessibility and accommodation for people with disabilities. Kim showed courage, diplomacy, grace and grit in confronting barriers to equality. Kim inspired positive change. She left her mark, particularly in Lively and Sudbury, Ontario, where she lived her 38 years, as someone who knew she had the right to belong. We wish to commemorate Kim's life and spirit by annually acknowledging others who share her exceptional commitment to inclusion and equity. The recipients of this award will create their own legacy: they are individuals, organizations and groups that have expanded the possibilities for people with dis/Abilities because of their inclusive vision and leadership. This award recognizes their unique contributions and accomplishments. Follow this link to view the Memorial site for Kim McConnell
