Sent: 9.16 am - fri 21 feb 2003Dear Jean, Bob & Jodie,
What a beautiful tribute to a young lady who obviously touched so many hearts. In reading through the emotional words of some of her friends and family members, especially Jodie's eulogy, one cannot help but feel the warmth and friendship that Kim generously provided to so many. She was clearly a special person who had a sincere interest in people. You must be very proud of Kim's accomplishments and I can only hope that all of these wonderful compliments to Kim and all of the joyous memories you have help you through this difficult time. My thoughts are with you,

I never personally had the honour of meeting Kimberly, but I got to know her in a small way through Jeans' motherly boasting and pride. I was very impressed with her drive and integrity! I also noticed she was a fellow Sagittarian??
I also want to tell Jodie how impressed I was with her eulogy. At such an emotional time she was very eloquent and composed. I especially appreciated her closing remarks, as I agree wholeheartedly that those in positions of power and authority, who are the most positively positioned to effect positive change must have the courage and integrity to step forward and make changes that need to be made. I often question if many in these people had even half the courage & integrity someone like Kimberly possessed how incredible our world might be??
We continue to think of all of you and anticipate Jeans return to the rink for some minor sort of solace in this incredibly difficult time.
Take care of each other.

Sent: 9.45 pm - thu 20 feb 2003Dear Bob, Jean and Jodie,
Hello to everyone. My family and myself were deeply saddened to hear about the passing of your wonderful daughter and sister. My mom forwarded Kim's memorial site to me and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to send you a message with my regrets, best wishes, and a few of the fond memories that I have about Kim.
When my parents called me with the news, I took some time to reflect on my fond memories of Kim. I can remember
her strength and determination, as she would challenge Jodie and I to summersault competitions, or a race on our bikes. I remember how she inspired me as she sped past us in her wheel chair. I remember also how she would always be the voice of reason as Jodie and I would have each others hair in our tightly closed fists, and/or be arguing about something (probably Terry Briggs!). And I will always remember her smiling face and kind Hello, as I walked through the halls of Cambrian College, years after you moved away from Lively. These are only some of the things that I remember.
I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to call Kim "a friend" or "my best friend's big sister". Knowing Kim at such a young age helped me to be comfortable with, respect, and see the potential in all people no matter what their abilities and/or disabilities were. This in turn has helped to lead me down the career path that I have chosen. I first started out as a Child and Youth worker, a field that I remained in for 15 years. This area of work offered me the opportunity to be employed in a variety of different settings with very special children of all ages. More resently I have been able to persue my dream of becoming a teacher, and I now teach a wonderful group of children with special needs. (I apologize for being unable to attend Kim's funeral but I am presently in my first year of teaching and have been kept very busy with this.)
I think that Kim's site is wonderful, and not only reflects the beauty of her, but also demonstrates the incredible family from which she came from. I am sure that she is looking down on it with a smile, as she speeds across the heavens on her bike.
Thank you for sharing this site with me. Please say hello to Jodie and perhaps you could forward her my e-mail address, I would love to get caught up with her. It has been a long time.
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of grief.
Sincerely with love,
Kari (Anne)--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sent: 7.52 pm - wed 19 feb 2003My mom and Kim worked closely together at Teletech. They became the closest of friends. My mom spoke of Kim so much that I felt I knew her. When I started working there I finally had the pleasure of meeting Kim. I could tell that she had a heart of gold just by the way she talked. She was so genuine. From that day on Kim would go out of her way to find me and offer her assistance in any way possible. Her smile was forever radiant, and her eyes sparkled brightly. She truly was a gem of a lady. Thank you Kim for the memories.

Sent: 10.22 pm - sun 16 feb 2003The few times I met Kim, she was remarkably open and welcoming -- as the rest of you McConnells are to those of us who turn up on your doorstep. I have kept up with Kim's adventures over the years through Jodie, who always had her sister in mind when she was planning holidays and where to live that would be accessible for Kim.
As a family, you gave Kim everything she needed to venture out into the world and take on any challenges that came her way. As this Web site makes clear, she gave back many times over. I am sorry she is not still here to keep on giving and loving and laughing.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sent: 10.55 pm - sat 15 feb 2003It gives me great pleasure to have known Kim for such a short time. I met Kim at Toronto School of Business in the Accounting and Payroll Administration program. I was saddened and shocked to hear of her passing so quickly as I had just spoken to her on the telephone Monday afternoon. We had some very in-depth conversations about goals and ambitions in life as well as sharing the frustrations of searching for employment after completing our school program. Talking to Kim was always a source of encouragement. Her ability to laugh and make light of things was a great stress relief. I will greatly miss Kim's friendship and the source of inspiration and encouragement she was. My life was deeply enriched knowing Kim and she will be deeply missed. My thoughts and prayers will continue to be with her friends and family and the memories will be remembered in our hearts. With love, Mark.

Sent: 11.20 pm - thu 13 feb 2003Dear Bob, Jean & Jodie,
Perhaps the sadness you feel now may never completely go away, but it will get lighter. Kim's life was a succession of victories. She faced each challenge with determination and conquered each struggle one by one.
I will always remember the picture of Kim when she was very young, probably not more than a year old, and her hand is raised pointing upwards. Even at that early age Kim was telling us "I am going up as far as I can go and nothing is going to stop me from getting there." Though Kim was in a wheelchair, she walked very tall, she completed her mission and left all of us a very important message...never say I can't.

Sent: 4.58 pm - thu 13 feb 2003This message is from Kim's nanny, Peg. I have many fond memories of Kim. She used to enjoy camping so much. We used to take her sister, Jodie, along. We liked going to Windy Lake, the best. Everything you needed (like warm showers!) was just across the campsite. We had bacon and eggs on the Coleman every morning. I cooked the girls potatoes and stew right on the open fire. We all liked staying in the camper trailer. We liked it when it rained at night.
Kim's grandpa took her on lots of walks, and the girls, when they were young, really loved when we took them to McDonalds and Harveys.
All I have is fond memories of our camping days.

Sent: 11.51 am - thu 13 feb 2003Dear Jodie and family,
I guess the only question haunting our minds is "why?" Kim's life was still in the season of springtime... full of possibilities...
Just like the spring season already carries all the fruits that will be maturing throughout the other seasons, I realize, visiting Kim's website, that she was already sharing so many good things amoung her friends, her family, her network. The tree of her life had already come to its maturity and has already achieved so many "possibilities". The seasons will now pass by... but Kim will always stay, in our minds and in our hearts, like a hymn to the spring.
Lots of love to all of you,

Although I didn't know Kim as well as I knew you she was most in my thoughts, as I knew the constant stuggle she had to endure. She always stuck me as a kindered spirit--she was unbelievable kind, generous and pleasant to all she encountered but you always knew, by that certain look in her eye, that she had the power of a tiger. She was a very strong woman. To live her life with bravado, warmth and tenderness required a disposition that few of us can claim.
I had always know that Kim was special and that she infected everyone she met with her charm. I did not realize that her contribution to this world was so encompassing until I saw her memorial page. She truley affected the lives of thousands of people. Her spirit blessed all of us but I can only imagine the encouragement and sence of perseverance she offered to others seeking acceptance and inclusion.
Kim will continue to touch the hearts of everyone who knew her.

Sent: 7.04 pm - wed 12 feb 2003A giant has walked upon us, gentle, unassuming, joyful and O so courageous. We noticed her but not nearly enough as she lived her difficult and challenging life to the full. We see the deep tracks that she has left in her passing and they are difficult to fill. Yet she beckons and challenges us all. To put away our petty complaints, to awaken to our strengths as she and her loving and supportive mother, father and sister so clearly did. To use the gifts that we are all given yet to often hide as we complain about the unfairness of our limitations and weaknesses. Kim you had greater disabilities than most of us will ever know yet you did not complain. You truly were a giant and now have easily made the transition to angel supreme. May your life be a model and inspiration to us all and may we too awaken to our gifts and leave lasting tracks as you so clearly have.

Sent: 2.40 pm - wed 12 feb 2003So many times in the past, I'd find myself in the halls of the Special Needs Centre at Cambrian. This is where I first was introduced to Kim. I was impressed with her confidence, finesse and gentleness. Her voice was beautiful. It was obvious by the way she spoke, she took pride in her work. Kim's words of welcome and guidance to visitors in need of assistance or direction were reassuring. Kim's respect for individuality was evident each time we talked. A positive attitude and cheery disposition were trademarks I remember her for. Thank-you for giving me the opportunity to know more about this gifted young person - a true role model for all to be inspired by!

Sent: 1.41 pm - wed 12 feb 2003What a sweet soul Kim was. A joy to run into. How she must have feared for her life when Jodie and I hitched a ride down 3rd Ave at full speed. I can still remember her laughing when we finally came to a stop. Her patience and kindness in putting up with all the antics of her little sister and her sister's silly friends. I only have fond memories of Kim and can't tell you how much I admired her independence and determination. The eulogy was beautiful. We were all very sad to hear this news but God knows, we all need angels like Kim to watch over and guide us. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Love Lee-Ann

Sent: 12.21 pm - wed 12 feb 2003I was a co-worker of Kim's during her time at Cambrian College. I especially remember her from the time we spent at the school off LaSalle Blvd where many of our re-entry programs for women and individuals who had suffered long-term unemployment were held. This was also the school where many new Canadian Citizens first learned English. Kim was so versatile she provided support and friendship to this diverse group of students in a manner that showed her understanding of people and her love of life. We had many happy, well downright 'silly' times over there and her sunny face and wonderful laugh were all a part of many good memories. She and I were together in the office when we heard of the first shuttle accident. She was truly moved. Another memory I have is of the day when one of our more 'difficult' students called the office to make threats to our safety at that little school. Kim was ready to stay there and do her job, but as we were the only ones at the site that day, I urged her to come with me to the main campus. We closed up shop and came over to the college to explain to Karen Shaw that we did not feel safe there and were willing to be re-assigned at the college for the day!!! Kim would have bravely stayed on. She commented that this poor guy was really having a hard time in life. Over the years our paths went different ways, but it was always so nice to see her when we did meet up.
My deepest sympathy to Kim's friends and family, she was a lovely young woman.

Sent: 6.10 pm - tue 11 feb 2003What a beautiful tribute to our sweet Kim. She was an inspiration to all of us here at Casa Bella
and will be missed by all of us. If any of our tenants was in the hospital, you knew that Kim would
drop by to visit you. If she missed seeing you around the building, she would inquire as to how
you were and if you were sick, a get well card would be at your door with her wishes for a
speedy recovery. That was our Kim! Always thinking of others. We will miss her dearly but know
that she is in Heaven and now is our Special Angel watching over us as Casa Bella....--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sent: 7.51 pm - mon 10 feb 2003Visited the Dawn site. What a wonderful gesture and a beautiful tribute to your darling "Kim". Having trouble accessing Jodie's touching tribute to her sister. Want to send it Sherri and Shawna who have both expressed shock and sorrow at Kim's passing. My thoughts have been with all of you this past weekend and words alone cannot express the sorrow I feel in my heart for you Jean, Bob, Jodie and also especially for her loving grandparents who must truly be devestated.
The "old" take it so hard when the "young" pass away before them. Take care all and remember your friends are thinking of you and wanting to do whatever we can in the difficult days ahead.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
