They are doing everything in their power to avoid parliamentary debate about the budget. It is an obvious election ploy that will make promises that are NOT subject to questions from opposition MPP's. They are setting up 4 hotel sites in Ontario (Ottawa, London, Thunder Bay, and North Bay) plus the originating location to broadcast the budget to a crowd of "select" people who will be able to comment on the budget (it will also be on radio and TV, the latter available only in communities that receive the CityPulse ch# 24 signal - North Bay doesn't) They are hoping the public will accept this in lieu of the normal release of a budget in the Queen's Park legislature. Urging folks in Ottawa, London, Thunder Bay and North Bay to attend one of the alternate meetings detailed below.
TV Budget Broadcast to London, North Bay, Thunder Bay and Ottawa The “virtual budget”, to be delivered at Magna Corporation in Brampton at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, Mar 27, will be simultaneously televised to meetings of hand-picked members of the public in London, North Bay, Thunder Bay and Ottawa. The Ontario NDP is organizing a Have Your Say on Budget Day briefing and alternative view of the budget by Leader Howard Hampton at Queen’s Park at that time, and is inviting members of the public in London, North Bay, Thunder Bay and Ottawa to participate in this briefing by conference call. The NDP Have Your Say on Budget Day conference call meetings will take place at the following locations, starting promptly at 4:00 p.m. People interested in participating should call or e-mail the contact person listed for their city to let them know they will be attending.
