Ontario Social Safety NetWork - The OSSN is an Ontario-wide coalition of low income community groups, legal clinics, social agencies and faith based groups committed to addressing poverty and inequity by working on issues of concern to low income communities and vulnerable groups.

Background

The OSSN is an Ontario-wide coalition of low income community groups, legal clinics, social agencies and faith based groups committed to addressing poverty and inequity by working on issues of concern to low income communities and vulnerable groups (primarily women, single parents and disabled people).

We have carried out research and consultations, prepared policy papers and briefs, and developed campaigns largely in the area of social assistance policy, as well as exchanging information on local realities and initiatives by bringing together members from across the province.

The coalition is run by a province wide steering committee and has been meeting 3-4 times per year since 1993.

OSSN acting co-chairs (as of June 2002):
Candice Beale, Ottawa Action on Poverty
Deb O'Connor, Northumberland Community Legal Clinic (NCLC)
