Ontario Social Safety NetWork - The OSSN is an Ontario-wide coalition of low income community groups, legal clinics, social agencies and faith based groups committed to addressing poverty and inequity by working on issues of concern to low income communities and vulnerable groups.

Mission Statement

The Ontario Social Safety NetWork is committed to fundamental principles of human dignity, mutual respect, economic equity, social justice, compassion and self-determination.

A healthy and just society requires the full and meaningful participation of all members.

All governments must work together to eliminate and prevent poverty and to remove the causes of poverty in Canada.

All members of society require, and have a basic human right to the basic material necessities of life, including adequate food, shelter, health, dental care, education and childcare.

Our governments must be accountable to their obligations under the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child and Parliament's unanimous commitment to end child poverty in Canada by the year 2000.

We call upon our governments to adhere to these principles as they develop and implement their economic, fiscal and social policies.
