Education Excellence Fund

Education Funding
Education Excellence Fund

NDPpublicpower means immediately restoring $2.1 billion to our schools and classrooms and fully implementing the recommendations of the Education (Rozanski) Task Force to guarantee every school is an excellent school.

NDPpublicpower means taking the politics out of education funding with a dedicated, accountable, guaranteed Education Excellence Fund. Every dollar raised through new tax brackets on individuals making more than $100,000 a year and $150,000 a year would go directly into the classroom.

PCConservatives:
Mordechai Rozanski's Education Equality Task Force confirmed what parents, teachers, students and staff already knew - our schools have been suffering greatly since the Conservatives started cutting and slashing in 1995.

While the Conservatives have made a series of pre-election funding promises, these piecemeal announcements are just starting to restore the $2.1 billion the Conservatives gouged out of the classrooms in the first place.

The Conservatives will only do half of Rozanski. In the first year they'll short-change our schools $1 billion. By the fourth year our schools will be $1.6 billion short.

LiberalsLiberals: The McGuinty Liberals have no plan to restore the $2.1 billion cut from education and have no commitment to implement the Rozanski Task Force recommendations.

The Liberals have been left in the dust on education funding - even by the Conservatives. Their funding promise is $1.3 billion - in the fourth year. That means that school could see nothing in the first three years of a Liberal government.

Some McGuinty Liberals support public funds going to private schools, some don't. They can't have it both ways. Where do the Liberals really stand?

NDPNDP: The NDP is clear on exactly how much we will put back into the classroom and how we will pay for it, not just this year but every year. No more "candy bar funding" for essential school supplies.

The NDP would scrap the private school tax credit and put the money back into making every
public school an excellent school. No public funds for private schools.

What do we mean by every public school being an "excellent school"? Textbooks for every
student, clean and safe buildings, special education services for all who need them, English
or French as a Second Language for all who need it, a principal, a librarian, a physical
education teacher.

The NDP would ensure that communities would be able to fund local education priorities by
providing school boards a five per cent flexibility fund.
