Since 1993, the Supreme Court of Canada has made two landmark decisions
concerning the issues of Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide, the Rodriguez
and Latimer cases.
Robert Latimer murdered
his daughter Tracy and is serving a life sentence with 10 years before
eligibility for parole.
Many people believe
that Robert Latimer should be granted clemency. Many people from the
disabled and pro-life community believe that Latimer should serve the
time for his crime.
The Euthanasia Symposium
will answer these questions and many more.
Speakers:
Wesley Smith:
- An attorney and
consultant for theInternational Anti-Euthanasia Task Force (IAETF).
- He has filed
amicus briefs on behalf of IAETF opposing the legalization of assisted
suicide in federal and State Courts, including the United States Supreme
Court.
- As an author
he has written many books including: Forced Exit: The
Slippery Slope from Assisted Suicide to Legalized Murder (1997)
and Culture of Death: The Assault on Medical Ethics in America.
Catherine
Frazee:
- Has been involved
in the equality rights movement for many years, most notably during
her term as Chief Commissioner of the Ontario Human Rights Commission
from 1989 - 1992.
- Her work as a
writer, educator and researcher focuses upon the rights, identity,
experience and well-being of persons with disabilities.
- She is a sessional
instructor in the Disability Studies program at Ryerson University
and a Research Associate at the Roeher Institute, Canada's Policy
research organization promoting the equality, participation and self-determination
of people with intellectual and other disabilities.

John Patrick:
- Professor of
Biochemistry and Pediatrics at the University of Ottawa
- Active member
and officer of the Christian Medical Dental Society of Canada
- Well known speaker
throughout North America primarily on speaking on medical ethics
- Currently organizing
the Hippocratic Registry for physicians who the support the Hippocratic
Oath
