Legislation to Allow Family Medical Leave |
|
|
The McGuinty government has introduced legislation that will allow workers unpaid leave to care for ill or dying family members. Under the proposed legislation, employees would be entitled to up to eight weeks leave, provided a qualified health care professional has issued a certificate stating that an immediate family member has a serious medical condition and there is significant risk of death within the next 6 months. In announcing the legislation, Labour Minister Chris Bentley cited data that indicates "more than 40% of employees caring for seriously ill families have had to quit their job."
